Der chilenische Electro-Musiker Nicolas Jaar, Sohn des bekannten bildenden Künstlers Alfredo Jaar (“The Rwanda Project“), veröffentlicht mit “Pomegranates” ein neues Album - und bietet dieses zum “Free Download” an. Die Vorgeschichte zum Album liest sich dabei durchaus interessant: Vor Monaten sieht Nicolas Jaar Sergej Parajanovs Sowjet-Klassiker “The Color Of Pomegranates“. Fasziniert von diesem Film, beginnt Jaar, seine Musik unter den kraftvollen Bildern Parajanovs zu legen - um das Endprodukt schließlich auf YouTube hochzuladen. Nur ist das mit dem Copyright eben so eine Sache, bei dem selbst ein von Pitchfork-gefeierter Künstler keine Chance hat, wenn der eigentliche Rechteinhaber bei YouTube zinkt 
. Für Jaar aber kein Problem: “I wanted to do some screenings but the guy who owns the rights to the film only wants the original version of the movie out there. I can’t blame him, I’m sure Paradjanov wouldn’t want some kid in NY pissing all over his masterpiece and calling it a soundtrack! I’ve listened to it a couple of times without watching the movie and I think it stands on its own. Or at least I hope it can!” Ja, der Soundtrack funktioniert auch ohne Film wunderbar. Sehr experimentell, verschroben und rough - aber absolut hörenswert!
